Dr. Peryl Agishtein is a NYS licensed psychologist. After earning her degree from the CUNY Graduate Center, she completed postdocs at Columbia/ NY Presbyterian Hospital and at CAPs, one of the largest clinics in the world that caters to Orthodox Jews. She went on to act as the founding director of a testing department within CAPs, as well as the founding director of a new branch of an anxiety center. Dr. Agishtein’s specialties and training include treating adult anxiety, anxiety-related disorders (such as phobias, OCD, and panic attacks), and depression using cognitive behavioral therapy; as well as providing couples therapy using the model of Emotion Focused Couples Therapy. Dr. Agishtein is currently practicing remotely, providing therapy to clients based in New York State and in Israel.

Does therapy really work?
Dr. Agishtein only provides evidence-based therapy. This means that the therapy modalities in which she specializes are backed by years of randomized controlled studies showing that they are effective. Therapy does not work for everyone, and success depends on a number of factors, but Dr. Agishtein is highly trained in providing types of therapy that have a very high success rate, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, emotion focused couples therapy, and exposure/ response prevention.
How long will therapy take?
The evidence-based treatments provided by Dr. Agishtein are generally considered to be short-term therapy modality. After an initial assessment of the problems and your goals, therapy can take between 8 to 20 sessions. Therapy is structured across a certain number of stages and steps, which helps to keep the therapy goal-oriented and on-track. Dr. Agishtein will work with you to determine what your goals are for your therapy and how you will determine when you feel ready to leave therapy.
Do you take insurance?
Dr. Agishtein’s practice is not set up to accept insurance. However, if your insurance network provides out-of-network coverage, we can provide an official receipt that you can present to your insurance company in order to receive full or partial reimbursement for the therapy fees.
What are your fees per session?
Dr. Agishtein is committed to providing crucial mental health services at a rate that is as accessible as possible. Fees are considerably lower than many therapists in the NY area, and range depending on the type of therapy being provided and duration of each session.
